Culling and Condensing

This was another successful week of culling sports photos! After my mentor visit this week, I felt very productive and like I had gotten a lot done in a short amount of time. During this visit, we focused on swim photos and now have a solid 9 to spread across 6 pages. This is definitely doable, and with a little help from a magazine journalist at the Dallas Morning News, I think some creative layouts will make this a strong section. Marcia connected me with a layout “specialist” at the newsroom who designs a lot of the Photos of The Year magazines. She also encouraged me to go back through photo books that she gave me this time last year. This will help spark ideas for my own book and how to properly fit 100 images in about 84 pages. By connecting with Marilyn and looking through other photo books, I am positive that I will have some ideas to put into my own, published photo book before April. Goals for this next week, if it even happens due to upcoming snow, are to cull basketball and cheer. I chose one big sport (regarding the number of photos) and one small sport so I am not completely overwhelmed by more than one large sport. Cheer season is over, which is perfect in this regard, and basketball is approaching the end of season/playoffs. If the boys advance in playoffs for more than 2 games, I will hold off. Otherwise, let’s cull some basketball!!!
